Joel F. Schock M.D. was born and raised in Ashley North Dakota. He attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks where he received his bachelor's degree and his M. D. degree. He completed his residency training in family medicine at the UND family practice Center in Fargo North Dakota and continues to maintain his board certification in family medicine.
After training, Dr. Schock began full-time practice in medicine at the Dakota Clinic West Acres branch and included both obstetrics and emergency room medicine in his practice. After 5 years, Dr. Schock moved his practice to the Meritcare Southpoint clinic, where he continued to practice for an additional 13 years. He now co-owns Plains Medical Clinic with his partner Dr. Hoadley Harris M.D. There he continues to practice family medicine on a full-time basis with an emphasis on preventative healthcare. To aid in the practice of preventative healthcare, Dr. Schick received additional training in the endoscopic evaluation of the upper gastrointestinal tract and colon. He also sits on the scientific advisory committee of the marketing company Lexli MD, and developed a health maintenance nutritional supplement called AloeVida for this same company.
Dr. Schock has served on the ethics committee of Dakota Hospital as a committee member and as chairman. He also served as the medical director of Odyssey Hospice Fargo branch in the past. He continues to serve as an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Family Medicine of the UND Medical School, is a diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice, and a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He is actively involved in the teaching of medical students and P.A. students from the region. He also continues active involvement in clinical trials and investigations as the principal investigator of a number of ongoing studies.
Dr. Schock lives in South Fargo with his wife, Jane and their 3 children. When not at work he enjoys a wide variety of outdoor activities and family time. |
